Dealing with seismology one becomes aware of the complexity of waves in structures. However this area is at the same time very exciting. How can we locate the epicentre of a earthquake?

Other fascinating areas where elastic properties of structures are of importance are all the contact problems. Please keep in mind that the rolling contact creates noise (e.g. tyres, train wheels, bearings, etc.).

In our courses we can unfortunately not go to deep into this subject. However, some examples should be shown. The examples demonstrate a semi-infinite space excited by a force distribution on its surface.
It demonstrated local deformation as well as Rayleigh waves.
